TechCrunch 7 – a different viewpoint
Ok, by now you have seen the hundreds of pictures posted on FlickR and the BLOGs of luminaries like Guy Kawasaki and others. I’m not going to regurgitate all that. I am going to provide a view of the “hottest party in Silicon Valley” from another perspective, that of a demo station attendant. SoonR was the very first sponsor of the party as we knew this thing was gonna be “Off the Hook!”
As we arrived, we waited around to be let into the Demo Mashpit. It was close to 6pm when we finally got in and people started coming in and asking for demos before we were even done setting up. Each sponsor got a small round table, except for the partner levels who got a larger rectangular one.

We crammed a Mac and a Windows PC on the table along with a stack of T-shirts and a sign.
I read on all these blogs how there was so much going on outside, but I didn’t get to see it all. I was at the demo-station giving non-stop demos and signing up people for the SoonR beta for 6 straight hours! Talking over music and the general noise of the crowd for six hours is not something I would classify as a rocking good time. It’s hard work! The good news is that we were fueled by the excitement and general positive reception over SoonR. I’ve received some great comments such as:
“Thanks for the demo at the TechCrunch party on Friday. It blew me away and was, without a doubt, the coolest product out of all the ones at the party.”
“Soonr is amazing! I love that you can Skype anywhere! What a wonderful feature! It is also great that using Soonr, you can access pretty much any information on your computer.”
The time passed quickly as I realized that the evening had blown by and I had met hundreds of folks who stopped by for a demo. Also I realized that I was parched and hadn’t had a drink!

Martin, our CEO, took over the booth for a while as I tried to get a drink and some relief…alas, it was not to be. I was soon back at the demo station and Martin was doing the roaming demo.
I offered these great SoonR T-shirts created by our talented designers to people who had cell phones with web connections when they agreed to join the beta program. We got a lot of takers!

Here I am showing off SoonR on a lowly flip phone. With SoonR, it can do everything a smartphone does and more! This picture is borrowed from “Scott Beale / Laughing Squid” at laughingsquid.com.
Thanks to all the folks who dropped by! I would write to you all personally, but then I didn’t get all your emails. Also thanks to Abbe and Martin for bringing me food and drink to keep me going during this demo marathon. Thanks to Michael Arrington for bringing together such a great crowd for us to share our technology with.
Oh, you want a cool shirt? Send in your “SoonR Moment” and we’ll send you a shirt if we use put your story on our website. Once a month, we’ll give a hot mobile phone to one lucky SoonR Moment entrant. Find all the details here: SoonR Moment Contest.
Well see everyone next year, but as a party attendee!
